Carlin's Profile
So much music, so little time! – words by Carlin Langley

I started really listening to music in the late 70’s and early 80’s. Growing up in a small town in Missouri, I listened to mostly rock music like everyone else around me. However, I discovered the R&B radio station and realized that I really liked this new genre of music that I had found. I spent a lot of time in my room with my headphones on listening to music. Some of the artists that I fell in love with are Cameo, The SOS Band, Lakeside, The Time, Morris Day to name just a few.

In my youth, I gained a decent collection of vinyl, but the CD craze hit just after I got out of high school. Because of the new technology, I got into CD’s as well and eventually stopped listening to my vinyl. However, five or six years ago, I met a DJ who exclusively spins vinyl. He taught me a lot about turntables and records, and I bought some vintage stereo equipment plus a few turntables. I started collecting vinyl again.

I am not a professional DJ, but I would consider myself more as a professional in listening to music. Just like anybody else, I have my own taste in music. I still like rock music, or classic rock as it would be called today. But, my tastes run anything from classic rock, to jazz, R&B, funk, disco, electro, and on and on it goes. In fact, I don’t pay a whole lot of attention to genre’s, I pay more attention to what sounds good to me. It would be easy for me to talk about music I don’t like, but I don’t want to offend anyone. It is all a matter of personal taste,

Today, I am just your typical nine to five guy in the work force who looks forward to getting home and relaxing with some music. Most of the time, though, you won’t find me just sitting or laying on the couch listening. You will find me in the middle of the room making a fool of myself dancing to the tunes. The best tunes for me have a beat and move me.

I also treasure making friendships with people like Dave, the VinylMorpher who share their music. This means I discover even more tunes out there that have been waiting for my discovery. Music is everything to me.
