Roman's Profile
Being a DJ has been part of my life since the mid 80’s, playing at bars & clubs to a predominantly commercial crowd. (Now in my 40’s)
My passion for soul music didn’t materialise until after I left school, when I caught a glimpse of the Average White Band in concert on TV (early 80’s), & I haven’t looked back!
Inspired by stations like Solar & Horizon, I started to track down records that had that special feel good sound. I spent years tracing down tracks in record shops & second hand record fairs before I got my first break as a DJ.
Investing in a console (2x belt drive BSR decks with built in mixer & amp! I still remember the first record I played, Roy Ayers – Can’t You See Me.).
Proving to be successful virtually immediately (even though I was a novice technically), I got the DJ bug & my long musical journey started.
Work started to come in for private party’s & I adjusted my musical style accordingly.
My residencies have always had a soul & dance feel about them trying to stay away from the party music.
Over the next 15 years, I worked for companies like First Leisure & Granada – Regals Night Club, Uxbridge - Options Night Club, Kingston – Coliseum Night Club, Croydon.
Also smaller clubs such as – Oscars, Greenford - Living Room, Hemel Hempstead – Tokoyo Joe, London – Burlington Night Club, Hammersmith.
Plus venues in Ruislip, Edgeware, Harrow Weald, Ealing, Park Royal, Knightsbridge, Beaconsfield, Stevenage, Milton Keynes to name a few (memory fading in my old age!)
I tried a stint abroad in Corfu, but ended up in Sidari, far too commercial & quiet for my liking.
I stopped my DJ work in 2000, being disillusioned with the current music scene.
After a couple of years, I strolled into a local bar & heard some great music being played. As soon as I heard Keni Burke – Hang Tight, I thought, this guy knows his music, & I had to go and introduce myself. The DJ was James Anthony from Solar Radio, and over the next few months I met Steve Montana at the venue (countless nights reminiscing about old tunes). These two guys got me fired up again to start DJ’ing once more (if it’s in your blood, it never goes away, as passionate DJ’s know).
An opportunity arose in 2004 to start playing again, I’m currently doing a weekly Saturday night at Q-Vardis in West Drayton playing 80’s soul classics, 90’s dance anthems & current dance & R&B.
I’ve played with a few celebs on my travels including Neil (Dr.) Fox, Brandon Block, Toby Anstis & Chris Farrell (Heart FM).
Myself & Steve started a ‘Funky Town’ night on a monthly basis, playing disco, soul jazz-funk, at Q-Vardis in West Drayton in 2008. No dates for 2009 confirmed.

Thanks to Dave at Vinyl Morpher for letting me loose on the world wide web with my Soul Revival show, time to switch off from the current music scene & relive the great soul & club tunes from a great era in dance music.
Keeping the vibe alive.
